Heeney surfaces publicly months after scandal allegations

Isaac Heeney appeared publicly at a Hong Kong racecourse. This was his first public appearance since an alleged incident in August.

Isaac Heeney plays for the Sydney Swans. He is serving a suspension for serious breaches of club behaviour standards.

He made a rare public appearance at Happy Valley racecourse in Hong Kong. Heeney was photographed with Australian jockey Zac Purton after celebrating a horse win.

He has largely avoided public view since an alleged incident at a Melbourne hotel in August. No charges have been laid.

Heeney briefly addressed teammates at the club in late September but skipped the awards night. Multiple sponsors, including Colgate, Telstra and Nike, have paused deals with Heeney while a police investigation continues.

Why it mattersThe appearance shows an attempt to rebuild his public image. The suspension and sponsor losses have affected his income and career.

AustraliaThe story shows the commercial and reputational cost of scandal for high-profile AFL players and how difficult it is to rebuild public trust.
