Perth agricultural show locked down after youth violence escalates
Fighting between youth groups forced the century-old Kelmscott show into lockdown on Saturday.
The Kelmscott Agricultural Show is a family event running for more than 100 years. The show locked down about 5pm on Saturday after fights between youths escalated throughout the day.
Dozens of groups tried to force entry to the venue in Perth's southeast. Between 50 and 70 juveniles attempted to breach the grounds at Rushton Park.
Security staff ejected disruptive visitors repeatedly, but the trouble grew. Some youths cut fences and cable ties to find weak points.
Police arrived and the crowd dispersed quickly. One juvenile received a caution for disorderly behaviour.
Society president Daryl Dawes said it was the first lockdown in his eight years leading the event. He praised the security team's response but called the incident disappointing.
