Cessnock man accused of exposing himself to child granted bail

Joshua Markey, 39, was granted bail despite being accused of exposing himself to a 10-year-old at a Cessnock shopping centre toilet.

A Rutherford man was arrested on Wednesday. Police said he exposed himself to a child at Cessnock Plaza shopping centre on October 31.

The boy saw the man doing a sexual act in the male bathroom about 1pm. CCTV backed up the child's story.

Markey said he was at the centre at that time. Joshua Markey was already on strict bail for separate sexual crimes.

These involved years of grooming. Police prosecutor Sergeant Chillingworth argued against bail.

He said Markey posed too great a risk. However, Judge James Viney gave him bail.

It came with several conditions. These included a daily police check-in, a curfew, and a ban from shopping centres and public toilets.
