Man taken into custody after grabbing knife and scissors at supermarket

A man allegedly took a knife and scissors from a Longford supermarket on Saturday morning and was arrested.

A 34-year-old man was taken into custody after entering a supermarket in Longford on Saturday morning. The man allegedly took a knife and scissors from the shelves.

Police said the incident happened at about 9:40am at Wellington Street. The man made no specific threats, but staff and customers found the incident distressing.

Police launched an investigation. There is no ongoing risk to the public.

Anyone in or near the supermarket who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police is urged to contact them on 131444 and quote ESCAD 102-10102026.
