Ex-cop admits shooting TV presenter, claims self-defence

Beau Lamarre-Condon testified he shot TV presenter Jesse Baird in self-defence, claiming Baird had a knife.

In his first two days on the witness stand, Lamarre-Condon, 31, told the NSW Supreme Court jury he went to Baird's Paddington home on 19 February 2024. Lamarre-Condon was there to get back a Cartier ring and clothes worth about $25,000.

Lamarre-Condon said Baird had a knife and tape. Lamarre-Condon said he was afraid for his safety.

Lamarre-Condon admitted he shot Baird in the shoulder during a struggle. He said he went into "police mode" because he thought Baird would stab his throat.

Lamarre-Condon says a second shot was accidental. Both fell during the fight.

He claims Baird's partner, Luke Davies, was shot by mistake. The gun had been thrown into another room.

Lamarre-Condon pleaded not guilty to murder. He is arguing self-defence.
