Gina Cass-Gottlieb recommended for five more years at ACCC
Gina Cass-Gottlieb has been recommended for a second five-year term as ACCC chair. State approval is still needed.
The Albanese government recommended Gina Cass-Gottlieb to lead the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for another five years, extending her term to 2031. Since 2022, she has pushed major changes to how tech companies operate.
Starting next year, new unfair trading rules will ban subscription traps and tricks that deceive consumers. She is also steering a landmark digital competition system.
It would set service codes for major tech platforms. These codes would require platforms to stop favouring their own services over competitors.
The ACCC is also managing a new system for companies to report mergers. Some say this adds red tape.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers said her reappointment provides certainty for the reform agenda. State and territory governments still need to approve the reappointment.
