Woonona gets 43 social housing units to ease decade-long Wollongong wait
Homes NSW plans 43 social housing units in Woonona, where wait times exceed 10 years.
Two four-storey buildings on Adams Parade will contain 27 one-bedroom units and 16 two-bedroom units. Nineteen parking spaces will be provided in the basement.
As of June 2024, Wollongong residents waiting for one or two-bedroom homes faced waits of more than 10 years. About 1,594 households are on the local waiting list; 69,000+ wait statewide.
Homes NSW chose smaller units to match what people actually need. This also helps fix under-occupancy: when people with spare bedrooms move to smaller homes, bigger units free up for larger families.
The application is on public display until October 7.
