Jets held to draw despite Bertoncello's early goal
Newcastle Jets led 1-0 through Xavier Bertoncello's fifth-minute goal but drew 1-1 with Macarthur after substitute Musa Ture scored on 70 minutes.
Xavier Bertoncello opened his goal-scoring account with a brilliant individual goal in the fifth minute, cutting inside from the left wing and firing past Macarthur's keeper. The Jets dominated play for most of the match with 7,293 fans at home.
Macarthur escaped with a point after substitute Musa Ture struck on the counter-attack in the 70th minute with his first touch. Newcastle had created numerous chances: Nikos Vergos missed gilt-edge opportunities in the first half, Julian Recchia grazed the crossbar, and Joel Bertolissio wasted a clear chance.
Jets coach Mark Milligan said after: "Goals change games. If you take your opportunities, it's a different look."
It was the Jets' second draw to open the season, following a 2-2 draw with Mariners away.
