Democrats seize control of Congress, flipping at least seven Senate seats
Democrats won 54 Senate seats and 225 House seats in a historic midterm victory.
Democrats flipped more than two dozen House seats that had voted for Republican President Donald Trump by double digits in 2024. In the Senate, Democrats flipped at least seven seats in Republican strongholds, including Kansas, which hasn't elected a Democratic senator in nearly a century.
Democrats now hold 54 Senate seats to Republicans' 44, with two races still uncalled. The party also won four governorships in Georgia, Ohio, Iowa and Texas.
This gave Democrats 26 state offices to Republicans' 20.
