Man sentenced for stealing from assault victim at Woolworths

Aaron Lee Williams, 27, pleaded guilty to stealing a wallet from a man beaten outside Deloraine Woolworths in October 2025.

Williams didn't participate in the assault but waited until it was over and stole up to the victim his wallet, phone and knife. The phone and knife were dumped over a fence; police found and returned them to the victim.

The wallet was thrown away and never recovered. The wallet held $650 cash and a birth certificate, leaving the victim in financial hardship.

The victim suffered a serious shoulder injury and was unable to work for some time. Justice Robert Pearce called the theft callous.

Williams received a nine-month community corrections order, 35 hours of community service, and must pay $650 in compensation.
