Legendary Swans coach Longmire takes GM role at Bombers
Sydney premiership coach John Longmire departs the Swans after almost a quarter-century to become Essendon's general manager of AFL performance.
John Longmire has ended his 25-year association with Sydney to join Essendon in a newly created role. He will assist coach Mark McVeigh.
Longmire is arguably the Swans' greatest coach. Longmire led the club to 333 games, the 2012 premiership, four other grand finals, and 12 finals series.
Longmire won the AFLCA coach of the year twice. At Essendon, he will oversee game strategy, player development, leadership, coaching, analytics and conditioning.
Longmire announced his shock decision to quit as head coach at the end of 2024. Longmire stayed on as executive director of club performance before this move.
Both clubs confirmed the transfer on Monday.
