Sydney hammers Brisbane in AFLW, Lions' season on the line
Swans beat Lions 37-23, leaving Brisbane needing wins to make finals.
Sydney proved too strong for Brisbane on Sunday, winning 5.7 (37) to 3.5 (23) at Henson Park and keeping their own finals hopes alive. Cynthia Hamilton booted two goals early, including one in the opening minute, while the Lions stayed competitive until the final quarter.
When Sydney attacked hard at the start of the last term, Hamilton kicked again just 32 seconds in, then Tanya Kennedy added another goal 12 minutes later to seal it. Brisbane's Craig Starcevich showed his team can compete, they were just one point down at three-quarter time, but they couldn't finish the job.
Isabel Dawes was Brisbane's standout with 24 disposals and six clearances. A late head knock to Ruby Svarc added injury to the loss.
