Autopsy found victim had fractures in neck, sternum and ribs
Pathologist testified victim Caroline 'Carlee' Smith had fractures consistent with neck compression death.
A Supreme Court jury has heard forensic evidence in the murder trial of David McLennan, sitting in Warrnambool. Pathologist Joanna Glengarry testified that Caroline 'Carlee' Smith had fractures in her neck, sternum and ribs.
Joanna Glengarry said neck compression was the primary cause of death. Smith's body also had bruising and head injuries.
The pathologist noted Smith had a blood alcohol level of 0.19, nearly four times the legal driving limit, and cannabis was present. The defence lawyer questioned whether the injuries could have occurred in different ways.
McLennan, 50, denies murdering Smith on May 11, 2025; her body was found four days later at her Hamilton home.
