Body found in Coober Pedy open-cut mine, police investigating

South Australian police are investigating. An unknown man's body was found in an open-cut mine near Coober Pedy on Thursday morning.

Police were contacted around 9.30am on September 10 about the discovery. The site is located around 850 kilometres north of Adelaide.

The man's age and identity have not been released. The man's cause of death has not been determined.

Major Crime detectives and Forensic Response officers are assisting with the investigation. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Friday.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
