Seven Hume clubs back a shorter season, but 18 rounds stay
Seven clubs voted for 16 rounds, but eight were needed, so the 18-round season stays.
Seven Hume Football Netball League clubs voted to cut the home-and-away season from 18 rounds to 16. The proposal needed eight votes to pass, so it failed.
The competition will keep its traditional 18-round season. Culcairn president Brendan Sheather said the main reason was the lack of a meaningful break between summer and winter sports.
Many of Culcairn's volunteers are also heavily involved with the cricket club. Sheather warned that finding volunteers is getting harder.
He expects a major shake-up in country football within five to 10 years. A home game could generate between $10,000 and $18,000, depending on the opponent.
