Samoa kicks off its Rugby League World Cup campaign against France on Friday with uncommon pedigree. The squad has won 20 NRL premiership rings, more than any other nation in the tournament.
Four western Sydney teammates anchor the side: Jarome Luai, Spencer Leniu and Stephen Crichton have won 15 titles between them at Penrith. When these four take the field together across club, state and international play, they have won 48 of 59 games, an 81.4 per cent win rate.
Other squad members add more rings: Izack Tago has three with Penrith, Deine Mariner won one at Brisbane, and Benaiah Ioelu was part of this season's Roosters premiership team. Coach Ben Gardiner said most of the squad had played in the World Cup final loss four years ago, giving them big-game experience.
