Amazon's new Kindles are slimmer, faster and come in purple and red
Amazon's redesigned Kindles are slimmer, faster and available in new colours including purple and red.
Amazon has released new Kindles at every price point, all with flush-front displays and fresh colour options. The entry-level model is now 6.8mm thin and weighs just 140 grams, making it Amazon's most pocket-sized Kindle ever.
The basic model charges once every six weeks and opens books 30 per cent faster than before. The basic 16GB version costs from at least $150 with lockscreen ads, available in Ube purple or Graphite.
An upgraded model adds an aluminium back and 32GB storage in Alpine Sky or Seaglass Green. The Paperwhite improved its battery to up to 12 weeks and added the largest screen and highest contrast of any Paperwhite yet, starting at $200.
Its Signature Edition adds 32GB, auto-lights and page-turn buttons for about $50 more. The Colorsoft redesigned its edge-to-edge colour display for clarity and starts at $290.
Entry-level models launch today in Australia; Paperwhite and Colorsoft roll out for preorder across the same regions.
