West Tamar approves nine new food van sites despite shop concerns
West Tamar Council approved nine new food van sites and removed one near an established shop.
West Tamar Council has expanded where mobile food vendors can set up. Two sites were added at Tailrace Park, three at the Esplanade at Beauty Point, one at Legana Oval, one at Windsor Community Precinct, and two at Greens Beach Road.
One existing site at Greens Beach was removed due to its proximity to a takeaway shop. The council said it aimed to balance vendor demand with protecting established businesses.
Dip In's Desserts owner Spyder Drew supports more vendor sites, even after facing some complaints about his stall. Councillor Rick Shegog alone opposed the move.
He said vans could complement existing shops rather than compete with them.
