Council says power lines over Maiden Gully square cannot be moved

The council says the transmission lines cannot be relocated, and AusNet has not given final approval.

Bendigo council has released a draft plan for the fast-growing suburb of Maiden Gully. The plan shows a proposed town square with major electricity lines running above it.

The council says those transmission lines are existing infrastructure that cannot be relocated. The plan would allow three-storey buildings along parts of McNamara Drive, including apartments overlooking the square and lines.

AusNet, which owns the lines, is open to a public space under the cables in principle. AusNet says this is not final approval of the town square design.

The final design must still be submitted for detailed review and written approval. Residents can talk to city staff at the Coles forecourt from 10.30am to noon on Saturday, October 24.
