Vance breaks with Trump, blames Iran war for GOP defeat

US Vice President JD Vance publicly blamed President Trump's Iran war for Republican election losses, a sharp break with Trump's position.

Vice President JD Vance broke sharply with President Donald Trump on Wednesday about why Republicans lost. "The reason we lost is the war," Vance wrote on social media.

While Trump and his advisers blamed Republican candidates, Vance blamed the Trump administration's choices. Trump himself admitted Iran was part of the reason voters rejected Republicans.

But he insisted the war was right and he would do it again. Vance said voters wanted Trump to end the war, focus on cost of living and inflation, put America first, and change the US relationship with Israel.

"Our voters showed up," Vance wrote. "And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats."
