Hindu Council leaders sued over alleged anti-Muslim online posts
Alliance Against Islamophobia took the Hindu Council of Australia to court. They claim its leaders spread racial hatred online.
The Hindu Council of Australia and senior leaders, including president Sai Saravastu, face legal action in Federal Court. The Alliance Against Islamophobia says they shared far-right anti-Muslim content online.
Such posts also appeared in speeches from September 2024 onward. Posts included retweets from US activist Charlie Kirk and British anti-migrant figure Tommy Robinson.
Slogans like 'Islam is not compatible with the West' were shared. The council speaks for more than 650,000 Australians.
Director Ash Agarwal said they strongly disagree with the claims. He said they will defend their case firmly.
The Australian Human Rights Commission tried to settle the matter in 2025. That effort failed, which led to this court case.
The alliance wants the posts removed. It also wants a public admission of wrongdoing.
It seeks a donation to its harm prevention fund.
