Emerson refuses to return $5000 donation his bill would ban

Thomas Emerson received $5000 from the manager of a poker machine club. He then proposed a law banning such donations. But he refuses to return the money.

ACT independent MLA Thomas Emerson is defending his decision to keep a $5000 donation from a club manager. He proposed a bill that would make such gifts illegal.

The manager of a club with poker machines donated to Independents for Canberra before the 2024 election. Emerson says the donation didn't influence him because he later proposed banning it.

Asked to return the money, Emerson said no. The donation went to his party, not to him.
