Woolworths lifts home brand water to $1 days after Coles bag hike

Woolworths says the rise is due to significant input cost increases from suppliers.

Woolworths has raised the price of its 1.5 litre home brand natural spring water from 80 cents to $1. The move came just days after Coles raised the price of its paper shopping bags from 25 to 30 cents.

A Woolworths spokesperson said suppliers face significant input cost increases. Woolworths said some items have gone up where cost increases could not be fully absorbed.

The spokesperson pointed to rising costs of manufacturing, fuel and packaging. Coles raised its 24 pack of 600ml water from $8 to $9.50 in August.

Woolworths now sells the same 24 pack for $9.40, while Aldi sells it for $8.99. A Compare the Market report found the average weekly grocery spend fell six per cent to $186.23 in 2026.

Rising fuel prices have reportedly added to supermarket price rises in 2026, linked to the Middle East conflict.
