Corinda State School delays plan for parents to buy laptops
The principal blamed higher laptop prices and cost-of-living pressure for the delay.
Corinda State School, in south-west Brisbane, has delayed a plan to overhaul its one-for-one iPad program for years 4 to 6. The school had planned to make parents pay for laptops for students from year 4.
The delay follows a vote by parents and school leaders last year. Corinda State School will instead offer school-owned devices shared between two students for a year.
After that, families will buy their own laptops for years 5 and 6. Principal Carmel Herbert shared the delay in a school newsletter.
She blamed a recent rise in laptop prices, along with higher living costs. Parent Doireann McPhee said the cost of an iPad had been a concern for her family.
The Education Department said schools manage their own device programs.

Why it mattersIt shows how rising device prices can change what a family is asked to pay for school.
AustraliaParents should ask their own school how device programs are paid for, because each school runs its own.
