Dysart teen loses leg after powerline contact near rail line
Jai Hita lost his left leg after touching a power line that burned 65 per cent of his body.
Jai Hita was found on a road near a rail line in Dysart, about three hours southwest of Mackay, after he touched a nearby power line last Wednesday. The contact burned 65 per cent of his body, and he was airlifted to Mackay Hospital.
Doctors had to cut off his left leg because the injury was so severe. Jai Hita's right arm was badly hurt and needed skin removal.
How his right arm will work in the future is still unclear. His family and friends set up a fundraiser to pay for care.
They wanted to help the family while Jai Hita gets better. So far, people have given $36,500.
