Man admits to hidden camera in bathroom; magistrate calls it 'dumbest decision'
Jamie Gordon Westbrook, 42, placed a trail camera in a bathroom in December. It recorded two females using the toilet.
Jamie Gordon Westbrook pleaded guilty on Friday in Warrnambool Magistrates Court. Westbrook installed a hidden camera that recorded two females using a toilet.
Westbrook owned a trail camera that recorded automatically when it detected movement. In December 2025, he placed the camera in the bathroom.
It recorded two females. The camera was discovered and police received the SD card.
Westbrook had no prior criminal history. His lawyer said the camera was placed to try to catch someone out.
The lawyer called it a serious misjudgement. The recording lasted just over two hours.
There was no evidence Westbrook watched the material. Magistrate Mark Stratmann said Westbrook made the most enormous error of judgement.
Stratmann called it probably the worst decision he could have made. The prosecution did not seek a conviction.
Stratmann placed Westbrook on a six-month undertaking to be of good behaviour without conviction.
