Teenage driver caught at 140kmh during Victoria police blitz
A 19-year-old P-plater was caught at 140kmh during a police blitz over AFL grand final weekend.
Police caught the Warrnambool teenager near Cavendish on Sunday, September 28, during Operation Scoreboard, a statewide enforcement blitz over the AFL grand final long weekend. A P-plater from Geelong was caught speeding in multiple zones, illegally overtaking, and driving on a suspended licence.
Officers also responded to a car driving the wrong way down Raglan Parade into traffic. In Warrnambool alone, police intercepted numerous impaired drivers.
Over the past four years, almost 1000 drivers have been caught drink or drug driving during the grand final weekend. Half had a blood alcohol reading between 0.050 and 0.099; 39 per cent were more than twice the legal limit.
Methamphetamine was detected in over 53 per cent of drug drivers. Police are warning motorists to expect testing anywhere and anytime.
