NT football league backs three-team women's division to survive
NT women's football league will shrink to just three teams in 2028, but the president is confident it will survive.
The NTFAW women's division one competition will shrink to just three teams, Meander Valley, Hillwood and George Town, when the Premier League expands to 10 teams in 2028. President Peter Gutwein is confident the smaller competition will survive and grow.
The association has more than 430 registered women players. About 260 are playing each week across 13 teams.
Nine clubs without women's programs have been asked to express interest in fielding teams by early next year. Gutwein says the focus is giving women who want to play football a real chance to play.
Some clubs struggle to field teams while others have twice the players they need.
