Etsy banned AI patterns and recipes but allows AI-generated artwork if the seller tells buyers.
Etsy announced tougher restrictions on AI-generated products on October 22. The marketplace banned AI-generated patterns, recipes and instructions.
Now sellers must provide at least one real product photo. AI-generated artwork is allowed if sellers tell buyers and add creative input.
Australian artist Amy Gibbs found copies of her work on Temu and AliExpress. She was disappointed to see them on Etsy, which helps independent creators.
Gibbs spent hours filing copyright reports about listings that copied her work. She wants governments to make online shops check for copied designs before they list them.
Etsy acknowledged shortcomings in protecting authenticity. It said it is improving how it spots misleading images and fake listings.
