WA's Lance Morris plays first match in 20 months against England
Lance Morris returned to cricket on November 7 after 20 months out, playing for WA against England.
The 28-year-old speedster took the field at the WACA Ground despite a slow recovery from spinal surgery followed by a side strain. Morris made his first-class debut in October 2020 but has played only 25 Sheffield Shield matches since, battling persistent back injuries.
When fit, he ranks among Australia's quickest bowlers. WA skipper Ashton Turner urged patience with Morris and young quick Mahli Beardman, saying fast bowlers need time to rebuild after long layoffs.
Both are viewed as crucial to Australia's bowling future as the nation moves beyond its current senior pace trio. Turner said Morris's best form may still be 12 to 24 months away.
