Telethon celebrities bring joy to Perth children's hospital wards
Television and sporting celebrities visited Perth Children's Hospital on Saturday, creating moving moments for children and families ahead of Telethon's broadcast.
Just hours before Telethon's 26-hour broadcast began at RAC Arena, TV stars and sporting legends toured hospital wards. Non-verbal 10-year-old Timmy, a huge Emma Memma fan, clapped and hugged her, communicating in sign language.
Shaun Versace said it was the happiest his son had been in a long time. Emma Memma was moved to tears.
'You're actually seeing children that benefit from people coming together,' she said. Seven-month-old Emily Waters, born weighing just 400 grams and on a ventilator for eight weeks, received a visit from Sunrise presenters.
Her father said Telethon funds help Perth Children's Hospital offer world-class care. Other children met Home and Away actors and AFL stars.
Former Hawthorn champion Shane Crawford, who walked the wards handing out gifts, said meeting struggling infants puts everything in perspective.
