Mental health beds return to Tasmania next month after fire
Ten beds at Tasmania's only public mental health clinic return in November.
The region's only public inpatient mental health clinic closed last month after an alleged arson attack damaged the Spencer Clinic. The 19-bed unit served the north-west.
Most beds will reopen in November. Health Minister Bridget Archer says 10 rooms will return to service, with a four-bed high-care unit and a six-bed acute unit.
Five more beds will open on the hospital campus in coming weeks. Three temporary beds at the nearby private hospital will help fill the gap.
A new permanent facility, a $40 million project, is now expected in 2028, delayed from the original 2025 timeline.
