Marathon cheat caught after impossible split times exposed her bike ride
Yuanyuan Sun was disqualified after split times proved she caught a ride on a bike from the 38km mark.
Chinese fitness influencer Yuanyuan Sun, 30, was disqualified from the Berlin Marathon after authorities caught her cheating. Sun posted a finish time of 4:53:46 and posed with her medal until race officials spotted something wrong.
Sun's split times showed the 35-40km segment was six minutes faster than her best 5km split. No runner could do that.
Photos from the Official Marathon Time Integrity Unit showed Sun sitting on the back of a bike. Her legs were dangling as she was ridden from the 38km mark to the finish line.
Sun has 520,000 followers on the Chinese social media platform rednote under the username Abeeeer. She issued an apology.
She said riding a bike broke race rules and there was no excuse for breaking them. Her sponsor Brooks ended their relationship immediately.
