NSW invests $40m in new fire trucks and massive SES headquarters

Varley Group will assemble 60 fire trucks; new NSW SES Northern Zone Headquarters in Black Hill will be NSW's largest zone headquarters.

NSW is building a new emergency services fleet and command centre to serve the Hunter and beyond. Varley Group's Tomago factory will assemble about 60 trucks: 40 for the Rural Fire Service, including 25 large tankers, and 20 for Fire and Rescue NSW, including pumpers and bushfire tankers.

More than $40 million investment for 2026-27 supports 530 jobs in the Hunter. Construction has begun on the NSW SES Northern Zone Headquarters at Black Hill, a $4 million facility four times the size of the current base at Metford.

The new HQ will hold an incident control centre able to hold more than 75 people, a flood rescue coordination centre, and media facilities. The Northern Zone covers 15 local government areas and 32 SES units from the Central Coast to Nambucca Heads.

Minister Jihad Dib said the upgrades give firefighters and volunteers the tools to protect communities across NSW.
