Max Gawn, last of 2021 premiership quartet, backs Melbourne's bold list shake-up
Melbourne's captain and record ninth All-Australian backs the club's trading decisions. He is the only one left from the 2021 premiership team.
Max Gawn is the final link to Melbourne's 2021 premiership. The club is doing a major list overhaul.
The captain earned a record ninth All-Australian selection and was also named skipper of the All-Australian team for the second time. Jack Viney, Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver have all left the club.
Gawn said, "I back the list management team, who made some tough decisions. None were probably tougher than Jack this year."
Melbourne defied predictions of a bottom-four finish to make a wildcard final under new coach Steven King. Gawn said the club had a clear direction and backed list manager Tim Lamb's strategy.
The Demons captain is contracted until the end of next year. He understands his time at the club will eventually end.
