Volleyball players threatened with benching for discussing trans teammate
Two Colorado high school volleyball players were allegedly threatened with benching for discussing a transgender teammate.
Two players at Dakota Ridge High School were told they would miss matches after discussing the transgender athlete on their team. A parent filed a complaint with the Department of Education.
The coach sent an email to just one parent. The coach said her daughter would not play.
The reason was alleged bullying language toward teammates. The coach did not specify the exact words.
According to the complaint, the girls' parents met with the coach and athletic director. After this, the players were allowed to play.
But only if they would stop discussing the issue. Jefferson County Schools is currently under Title IX investigation by the U.S.
Department of Education. A parent advocacy group reviewed emails.
The emails showed girls were threatened with benching. This was for expressing frustration about the situation.
