Bulli High's top student picks teaching, inspired by her mentors
Chelsea Groves, Bulli High's 2026 dux, chose teaching over medicine after early university entry.
Chelsea Groves won early entry to the University of Wollongong to study physical education teaching, even though she topped her year at Bulli High School. Chelsea Groves turned down the path many high-achieving students take: law or medicine, which typically pay more.
Chelsea Groves was instead inspired by teachers who became mentors and shaped her school experience. At least eight other Bulli students who gained early entry to UOW also chose teaching, including Cooper Delaney.
Both are talented basketball players with parents who work in education. The early admission scheme lets students know their university place is secure before sitting their final HSC exams, which eases the stress and helps them study with more confidence.
