Equipment theft disrupts Ballarat rail lines

Rail services between Wendouree and Ballan were suspended on Monday morning after suspected copper theft damaged track equipment. V/Line crews looked into a rail equipment fault and worked to restore services.
Coaches replaced trains on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines between the two stations. Passengers were told to allow up to 80 minutes extra for their journey.
Commuters on board said they were told copper theft along the line caused the suspension. Service cuts like this follow Saturday's vandalism when charging cables were cut off at least 28 Tesla superchargers at three sites in Lucas and Wendouree.
