Tourist slashed in head while stopping e-bike theft at Adelaide caravan park
Steve Hoy, 60, was cut by an angle grinder when he chased a man stealing his e-bike at dawn.
A Gold Coast retiree woke to grinding sounds at an Adelaide caravan park just before 5am and raced outside to find a hooded man cutting through the lock on his e-bike. Hoy confronted the thief, and the two fought in the street.
The man turned the angle grinder on Hoy, slashing his forehead and knocking him down. Despite the head wound, Hoy chased after the thief as he rode away on the stolen bike.
The suspect abandoned the bike and scattered belongings including a wallet with cash and drugs. Police found a blood trail through the caravan park but the offender remained at large.
Hoy, who is travelling Australia with his family, said he still planned to attend his son's band's Adelaide show that night.
