Australian woman remains missing a month after Nepal-Tibet floods
Reshma Patel is a Newcastle woman. She is among 5,500 people unaccounted for. This followed the August 26 Nepal-Tibet floods. The floods killed more than 1,400 people.
Reshma Patel was on a two-week pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in the Himalayas. She had long wanted to do this trek on foot.
On August 26, a devastating flash flood swept through the Nepal-Tibet border area. Bhavin Patel is her husband.
He has returned to the region multiple times to search. He also used a helicopter to scout remote Tibetan areas where he thinks survivors could be.
A month later, more than 5,500 people remain unaccounted for. This includes 34 Australians.
Neither Nepal nor China has said any Australians are among those who died. The couple has been together nearly 25 years.
They have two school-age children at home in Newcastle.
