Tesla to stop making Cybertruck in mid-2027 as sales collapse
Elon Musk announced Tesla will stop Cybertruck production at its Texas plant around mid-2027. The company will focus on Cybercab making instead.
Elon Musk announced Friday that Cybertruck production will stop at Gigafactory Texas next year. The electric truck was meant to be Tesla's next big hit.
But it let people down. Sales dropped from 38,965 in 2024 to 20,237 in 2025, far below Musk's hope of around 250,000 per year.
The truck had problems with how long it lasted and how well it worked after launch. It was never made with the steering wheel on the right side.
This limited sales to North America and some Gulf countries. Tesla cancelled Australian orders.
Gigafactory Texas is the only factory that has ever made the Cybertruck.
- 38,965 Cybertrucks
- 2024 sales
- 20,237 Cybertrucks
- 2025 sales
- Around 250,000 per year
- Musk's sales target
- Mid-2027
- Production ends
Why it mattersThe Cybertruck is leaving the market early. This shows that even Musk's famous projects can fail in the real world. It signals Tesla is moving resources to newer products.
