Bell Bay smelter cuts up to 10 jobs a month after $200m rescue package
Up to 10 roles at Bell Bay Aluminium are being cut. This comes weeks after it got $200 million in government funding.
Workers at Australia's oldest aluminium smelter have been offered redundancies as part of a routine operational review. Only up to 10 roles are affected.
The smelter will keep its main workforce of about 550 full-time equivalent employees. The redundancies come less than a month after the federal and state governments announced a $200 million rescue plan.
This funding is meant to keep the plant open until at least 2031. Rio Tinto runs the smelter near George Town in Tasmania.
