Margaret East steps down after 42 years leading Tasmania's third-largest
Margaret East retired as secretary of the Launceston Competitions Association. She served for 42 years.
She started dancing with the Launceston Competitions Association at age eight. She began teaching highland dancing and became secretary in 1980, when she was in her late 30s.
The organisation runs Australia's third-largest eisteddfod, operating continuously since 1902 and offering young people classes in dance, music, speech, drama and creative writing. East said the role needed "a younger and more computer-minded brain."
She only stopped teaching dance seven years ago.
