Man sentenced over campaign of violence and intimidation against relatives
A 52-year-old ex-defence force member was sentenced to just over five and a half years for harassing family.
An ACT Supreme Court judge sentenced the former Australian Defence Force member for 19 charges of harassment, death threats, and assault against his family. The 52-year-old sent dozens of hostile emails to his brother threatening to kill, shoot and fight him, and sent similar death threats to his mother and her partner.
The man also appeared at his brother's home carrying a bat and shoved his mother into a table, pulling out a clump of her hair. Justice Jon White said the man's conduct left his family in a perpetual state of anxiety.
The man pleaded guilty and showed no remorse, even telling the court he wished he had carried out his threats before arrest.
