Hugh Schmetzer joins Corowa-Rutherglen as ruckman for 2027
The 24-year-old ruckman left his Bendigo league club to join Corowa-Rutherglen, following his former coach Sam Livingstone.
Hugh Schmetzer will become Corowa-Rutherglen's number-one ruckman in 2027, making the weekly journey from Bendigo. The 24-year-old previously played for Osborne in the Hume league, where Livingstone helped develop him from reserves to senior football.
After leaving Osborne in 2024, Schmetzer played for PINT in the Northern Territory and Sandhurst in the Bendigo league. Livingstone's recent appointment as co-coach at Corowa-Rutherglen made the move possible.
Schmetzer, 194cm and 94kg, believes his mobility will give the Roos a different look in the ruck and help compete at stoppages.
