Wollongong council worker jailed for drug supply and 190km/h motorway chase
Benjamin Pratt, a Wollongong City Council labourer, was jailed for drug supply and leading police on a dangerous high-speed pursuit.
Benjamin Pratt, 41, pleaded guilty in Wollongong Local Court to drug supply, drug possession, and police pursuit. On March 9, 2026, police spotted Pratt driving a blue Mitsubishi Lancer on the Princes Motorway near Berkeley and signalled him to pull over.
Benjamin Pratt accelerated instead, reaching speeds above 190 kilometres per hour and using the breakdown lane to overtake. Police called off the pursuit after 40 minutes when the danger became extreme.
Officers found Pratt's car parked in Albion Park and searched it with a drug dog, discovering 1.84 grams of methamphetamine and glass pipes. When arrested at his workplace in Bulli two days later, he carried 8 grams of meth.
Two units he had access to held 158.28 grams. Judge Michael Love rejected defence pleas for leniency, calling the pursuit "incredibly serious" and noting the drugs could have destroyed many lives.
Pratt was sentenced to three years with a two-year non-parole period.
