Man who fractured stranger's skull seeks sentencing delay to pay medical bills
Corey Ethan I'Anson's sentencing for a hammer attack has been delayed so he can arrange payment of the victim's medical bills.
On Anzac Day last year, I'Anson pulled a claw hammer from his pants and struck a 23-year-old man outside Shoal Bay Country Club near Newcastle. The blow knocked the victim unconscious and fractured his skull.
The 23-year-old victim needed cranial surgery and spent ten days in hospital. I'Anson then threatened the victim's friend with the hammer.
His barrister argued that I'Anson suffered post-traumatic stress from a prior unprovoked attack and asked for a sentence that did not include jail time. The judge said it was hard to accept this reasoning.
The sentencing was due Monday but has been adjourned to December 4 while inquiries are made about I'Anson paying the medical bills.
