Melbourne Market board resigns en masse over Guerra appointment

The full Melbourne Market Authority board has quit in protest at the appointment of Paul Guerra, former Melbourne Demons chief, as chair.

The Melbourne Market Authority board has resigned in protest over the appointment of Paul Guerra, a former Melbourne Football Club chief executive, as the authority's chair. Angie Bradbury, who was acting chair and had applied for the permanent role, was overlooked for the job.

Bradbury and fellow board members Margaret Burdeu and Emma Germano, the former Victorian Farmers Federation president, resigned effective October 29, along with acting chief Keith Louie. Two board members said the appointment presented foreseeable and unacceptable risks to the authority.

Guerra was removed from the Demons role in April and has begun legal action against the club for breach of contract. His first court hearing is due October 30, the same day he is scheduled to start as market chair.

The Melbourne Market at Epping is Australia's largest wholesale fruit, vegetable and flower market.
