Autistic child removed from flight minutes before takeoff
A 10-year-old autistic boy was removed from a China Southern Airlines flight just before takeoff.
An Adelaide family was removed from a China Southern Airlines flight just minutes before takeoff. The boy's excited non-verbal sounds and laughter drew complaints from other passengers.
The 10-year-old is autistic and looked forward to a family trip to Pakistan to celebrate his sister's 14th birthday. Nzaifa Fatima, the mother, told airline staff he would calm down once airborne.
But the family was escorted off and their luggage returned. The airline gave no documents about refunds or vouchers.
Fatima says the family has flown with other airlines without incident and is demanding an explanation. Autism SA called for more understanding across the travel sector to make flying more welcoming for people with disability.
