Telethon builds 10 custom gardens for kids in wheelchairs
Build Now and Healthy Strides are building 10 custom garden beds and sandpits for young West Aussies who have trouble moving.
Standard ground-level play areas are out of reach for children using wheelchairs or standing frames. Custom timber beds change that by letting kids roll right up.
Kids can plant flowers, dig in sand, or play alongside their siblings. Build Now and Healthy Strides measured each of the 10 children.
They matched each child's exact sitting or standing height. So every bed fits perfectly.
The live build happens during the Telethon Family Festival outside RAC Arena on October 18. For families like Caity Rawlings's, the impact is profound.
Their three-year-old daughter Alecia has cerebral palsy. Alecia can now interact and play with cousins and friends instead of watching from the sidelines.
Four-year-old Luca lives with a rare genetic condition. He no longer has to crawl in soft sand.
He can play when other kids play instead of sitting out.
